E3 Predictions
Anyone want to post their predictions for this years E3.
Here are my predictions - some of which may just just be wishfully thinking rather than following any logic - here goes.
1. I can't help but think that the big secret of the Wii is that it is portable. I would expect that the Wii would at least be as powerful as the Mac Mini but if some of the information that has come out is correct then the Wii will be not much more powerfull than some high end pdas.
The size and power of the Wii makes no sense. Cost is not a reason because for price vs performance I think 1.5 GHz would be a better option. The 729MHz as quoted from IGN is a speed so low that is usually found in portable devices. I doubt that it would cost much more to double the speed to 1.5 GHz. Why is Nintendo putting such an emphasis on small and low power comsuption?
Then there is that thing with the stand being a power supply. Nintendo denied it and the whole thing was dropped and quickly forgotten. I thought it strange that Nintendo would even bother denying the power supply stand thing as they never bother to deny any of the thousands of other rumours. So may be the stand is a power supply and it also charges an internal battery.
Looking back over the last year or so one thing is for sure if Nintendo deny it, it is probably true. Remember the DS Lite. They practically called Lik-Sang liars and then the next week anounced the DS Lite
The only conclusion is that the Wii is portable but how would you view the game? I have no idea but I can't shake the thought that the Wii is portable.
2. When I first saw the Rev Remote from last years E3 the first possibility I thought of was Star Wars and I am sure many others thought the same. Light saber duels were made for the Wii yet we have heard absolutely nothing from Lucas Arts concerning the Wii although there have been rumours about a Darth Vader game. I could not imagine anything better than a Star Wars game being one of the launch titles for the Wii and if a Star Wars game for the Wii is not announced I will be bitterly disappointed.
Okay that is my 2 cents worth. I am probably wrong but I had to get that out there.

When I say portable I don't mean that it is going to compete with the DS or the PSP. There are other reasons to be portable. If a 3d visor was the last secret then a portable Wii makes sense. Latency and bandwidth issues would require a cable rather than wifi. A wifi visor is possible but would probably be too expensive to implement so the Wii needs to be portable to give more freedom for using the Wii-mote and the visor.
I know this is probably just wishful thinking. But, the reported low power of the Wii makes me think this. If the Wii specifications are much higher than previously reported then you can forget everything I have said.
I guess we will know for sure in a couple of hours.

I think a 3d visor is a real possibility because what else could be as immersive as a virtual 3d world. Just because previous attempts at doing this have been failures doesn't mean it can't be done.

Not too sure about the portable stuff but it is strange that Lucas Arts has not made any announcements about the Wii. Id love to use light saber on the Revolution, sorry Wii.
